Petition for Mitchell Shire Agricultural Committee
On 6 July 2026, Protect Our Farms Inc. presented a petition to Mitchell Shire Council calling for the establishment of an Agricultural Advisory Committee.
Protect Our Farms sponsored and organised the petition, which was signed by 628 people. Three members of Protect Our Farms addressed Councillors in support of it at the meeting.
Council is considering the petition. We are hopeful that an Agricultural Advisory Committee will be established.
What we are asking for
Purpose
To establish an agriculture and agribusiness advisory committee to provide strategic advice and improve understanding of food and fibre security, land use, climate impacts and other issues relating to agriculture and agribusiness within the Shire.
Rationale
Farming communities need a “seat at the table” to provide input when governments and governing bodies are considering policies, practices and processes that impact directly or indirectly the sustainable livelihoods of farmers, farm related ancillary businesses and the rural and regional infrastructure they support.
